Bob Pyle’s and Caitlin LaBar’s book, Butterflies of the Pacific Northwest by Timber Press, is due for release on April 18th and is available for pre-order now on Powell’s Books, Barnes & Noble, Amazon and other major retailers. It will be available in many area bookstores upon the release. You may preview several pages of it using Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature when viewed from a PC (doesn’t work from smartphones). The book features around 50 photographers from our region, including some WBA members! The text and maps are revised and updated from Bob’s Cascadia, and it has an almost completely new set of photographs, many of which are much larger than the previous book. Several new specimen plates featuring a wider selection of subspecies for difficult-to-identify groups such as sulphurs and fritillaries are also included.
Caitlin LaBar is also about to release her new website, northwestbutterflies.com, where you may order her two self-published books: Butterflies of the Sinlahekin Wildlife Area and Pocket Guide to the Butterflies of Washington. There is a limited run of about 30 copies of the Sinlahekin book due a problem with the printing process. Around 40 additional copies with the same interior but lower-quality covers will be offered at a slight discount after the first set are sold out. She is working on a solution, but may not have more copies available for sale until later in the year. For information about these books, visit her blog: northwestbutterflies.blogspot.
