On May 3, ten WBA members traveled to Mason County for the first field trip of the season, and our first TBD (To Be Determined) field trip. The weather and target species in flight coalesced for a perfect day, and we took advantage of it. The participants agreed that TBD was a good option to add to our trip scheduling.

Power line corridors in the Hoodsport area have been productive for several species that are not commonly seen in good numbers. We saw all four target species: Bramble Green Hairstreak, Brown Elfin, Hoary Elfin and Western Pine Elfin. Unfortunately, ‘2:00 Oreas‘ did not put in an appearance. We searched in vain for an Oreas Comma that is reported to visit a particular sunny location around 2:00 regularly. We saw an orange flash, but never had a clear view. However, resting for a few moments by the stream out of the sun was a fine consolation prize. A big thank you to Tanna Knouse for sharing some of her favorite locations with our group.
