South Fork Ahtanum River Butterflies
Join the Washington Butterfly Association for a weekend of engaging conversations with butterfly experts and enthusiasts to learn about some of the 69 butterfly species found in Yakima County.
Socializing and refreshments begin Friday at 6:00 PM in the Yakima Arboretum Gardenview meeting room, capping off with an evening “Mothing” experience with David Droppers. Receive a new WBA baseball cap at check in.
Saturday, after a day in the field, we will once again gather in the Gardenview meeting room for: a recap of the day’s species viewed, pizza dinner and presentation by our keynote speaker, Dr. David James, who will present his latest research paper on the ecology and migration of the Coronis Fritillary, Speyeria coronis. This presentation promises to offer us a fascinating glimpse into a vibrant sage-steppe butterfly.
On Sunday, we will spend half a day searching for butterflies before saying goodbye – until our next WBA butterfly exploration.
