6:00 – 7:30 pm – Bob Hardwick’s Skippers of Washington State Video
Corbin Art Center, 507 W. 7th Ave, Spokane
At this meeting we are going to have a raffle of some cool butterfly items so bring a few dollars if you are interested in purchasing some raffle tickets, they will be a $1 per ticket and you can purchase as many as you want.
This month’s scheduled speaker could not make a presentation this month, so Spokane WBA dips into our video archive to offer viewing of one of the most informative and useful species presentations in the library: Bob Hardwick’s, “The Skippers of Washington State”, a faithful recording of his excellent lecture to the Seattle WBA branch on May 4, 2011. This information packed meeting will prepare our members to spot, identify (and even enjoy!) one of the most challenging families of Inland Northwest Butterflies. Our northeastern counties are home to some of the least common of all skipper species!
Now deceased, Bob Hardwick was a much loved science teacher before he retired to his home in Gig Harbor. He had been able to spend several years with the Peace Corps in Africa, where he compiled a substantial butterfly collection that later came to include nearly all the known species of Washington state butterflies. This collection was gifted to OSU’s collections in Corvallis, OR, after Bob died in 2014. He had also been very active with the Washington Butterfly Association from the early 2000’s on as a lecturer, field trip leader and mentor for many of us who fondly remember him to this day. Come appreciate a slice of this fine piece of WBA’s legacy, and learn your Hesperidia while you’re at it!
