Reminder – 4/6 Seattle Meeting 7 pm – Mongolia — The Other Steppe: Butterflies, Horsemen, and The Flaming Cliffs.

Please come to Wednesday’s Seattle WBA Meeting at 7:00 pm at the Center for Urban Horticulture. Bill Yake will be there with Jeannette Barreca to tell us about their trip to Mongolia.

Bill’s presentation is titled “Mongolia — The Other Steppe: Butterflies, Horsemen, and The Flaming Cliffs. “

“Because we live in Olympia, we don’t regularly get up to monthly meetings any more, but we’ve been with WBA since its inception. We’ve checked out butterflies while traveling fairly widely — Sicily, southern France, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Sulawesi, much of the western US, and, most recently, Mongolia. Also, as volunteers, we’ve surveyed butterflies on the prairies Thurston County and in the southern portion of the Olympic National Park. Both of us worked for years for the Washington State Department of Ecology, and Bill’s poetry has been published widely — including in OrionWilderness MagazinePoetry, and, most recently, in Forest Under Story: Creative Inquiry in an Old Growth Forest (UW Press). Among Jeannette’s roles on the Mongolia trip — she took Polaroid photos of the folks we met throughout the country and gave them the pictures. This always makes for friendly encounters. ”   – – Bill Yake

Bill will be bringing a few copies of books too. Especially a new chapbook focusing on the Mongolia trip called: The Fenceless Steppe: Travels in Mongolia. So that will be available should folks be interested.

The Center for Urban Horticulture is located at 3501 NE 41st Street, Seattle
