Dear Member of WBA,
As of April 1, 2015, WBA will commence operating as an autonomous organization separate from the North American Butterfly Association (NABA), of which we have been a chapter since our beginning in 1999.
On December 18, 2014, as directed by the WBA Board, our President Idie Ulsh wrote to NABA stating that, after polling the WBA membership and finding overwhelming opposition to NABA’s new bylaws, the Board could not sign and accept them. We received no response from NABA, but since then NABA has dropped WBA from the list of chapters and has blocked changes to the WBA website which has been hosted by NABA. We will soon be replacing that website with our own.
To make the transition to totally independent status as orderly as possible, the WBA Board has established that we will be officially an autonomous organization and withdrawn from a relationship with NABA as of April 1, 2015. There are important implications for members who have joined WBA through NABA:
After April 1, joining or renewing membership with NABA will not automatically make you a member of WBA, as in the past. You may, however, join or maintain membership with WBA directly by sending a check for your dues to:
Washington Butterfly Association
PO Box 31317
Seattle, WA 98103
$20 for individual, $25 for family
For those of you who have renewed with NABA before April 1, we will continue to honor you as a WBA member until you renew again. (Please let us know if you have renewed recently with NABA.) Or, you may want to support both NABA and WBA with membership dues to each separately.
