The 179 acres of Evan’s Creek Preserve is a hidden gem in King County. The land was gifted to the City of Sammamish over twenty years ago and includes areas of mossy forest, meadows with native lupine, wetlands, and of course, wildlife. Restoration work is in progress. Volunteers from WBA will be surveying the preserve this season. Being on the west side of the Cascades, we don’t expect to see an abundance of butterflies, but hope to find good diversity by season’s end. During a visit the last week of April we saw five species including Mourning Cloak, Anglewing, Margined White, Cabbage White and blues, probably Echo Azure. The survey will be shared with the preserve at the end of this season.
